Finding a Veterinarian

When you are looking for a veterinarian for your IG, there are several things to consider.  Does he/she have experience with sighthounds?  What anesthesia does he/she use?  Has he/she ever treated an Italian Greyhound?  Is he/she familiar with treating broken bones?  Does he/she use pins or plates to treat a broken leg?  Is the office open on weekends or evenings?  Are they affordable?

Over the years, I have used several different vets...some better than others when treating IGs.  If you are lucky enough to live in the Southern California area, the vet of choice is Dr. R. S. Goraya, Pico Rivera Animal Hospital, 9221 Slauson Ave., Pico Rivera, CA 90660, phone 562-949-2494.  Dr. "G" as he is known, has been treating my dogs for over 15 years and I highly recommend him and his partners.  In fact, he is so well respected in the IG community that people who live 2 or more hours away make the trek to Pico Rivera so Dr. G can treat their dogs.  He is experiened in orthopedics, dentistry, and diagnostics as well as general veterinary medicine.  When I first met Dr. Goraya he was instrumental in treating the IGs that came into IGCA rescue in the So. Cal. area.

A word about insurance - It is very good idea to purchase health insurance for your IG and there are several excellent choices, most of them are very affordable.  Check the links page for further information.
